Graduate Admission

Bloomsburg University is looking for students who are determined to succeed, and unafraid of a challenge. The application process helps us better-understand who you are and your level of readiness to start your climb.

  1. Application

    The online application requires a non-refundable application fee of $35 for United States applicants/$60 for International applicants that will be paid online at the end of the electronic application via credit card. The application cannot be submitted without payment.

  2. Application Materials

    Application materials should be uploaded with your online application (with the exception of transcripts and GMAT/GRE scores); or by logging back into your online application after submission to upload materials to your Supplemental Form. All uploads MUST be in PDF format; the system will not allow other formats.

    • The name, email address, and relationship of your Recommenders are required in the online application. This will send an automatic email to the individuals requesting a Letter (and Form if required for your program) be uploaded for your application.
    • Transcripts should indicate degree granted and/or show the most recent semester grades/current semester in progress and be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions from your respective institution. This should include transcripts from any colleges/universities you have attended. Bloomsburg University graduates do not need to submit a BU transcript.

    • GRE and GMAT scores are requested directly through ETS. Bloomsburg University’s code is 2646. Please allow up to 2 weeks from the date of the request for scores to be received in the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  3. Before Applying

    • Review your resume: Most graduate programs require you to submit a resume. Your resume should reflect you as professional and showcase your skills. Whether you are starting with the basics or just looking to update the content, your resume should be a snapshot of your most applicable experiences.
    • Write a statement of goals: A statement of goals, also known as a “statement of purpose” or “personal statement” is a document that demonstrates your writing ability on a personal level. Your personal statement should discuss your personal, career, and academic goals posed by the graduate program. Be sure to check your specific program webpage to check for specific prompts or requirements.
    • Ask for letters of recommendation: While your transcripts will showcase your academic accomplishments, admissions counselors want to know more about you- from someone else. Typically, programs will require two or three letters of recommendation from previous supervisors, professors, colleagues or mentors. These letters should be written by someone who you have built up a solid relationship with that can speak extensively to at least one aspect of your graduate program whether that be academics, leadership, or personality traits. Some recommenders will need more time to submit these letters than others so be sure to ask early, give a deadline and provide all of the information that they may need to produce a quality letter on your behalf. For example, some may ask for your resume to include pertinent details based off your previous experiences.
    • Graduate standardized testing: The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores are required for some program admission. Consult your program webpage or program coordinator for specific admission/score requirements.
  4. Additional Admission Requirements

    The entrance requirements to a Masters, Doctoral, or Certificate program at Bloomsburg University vary according to program. However, the minimum requirements for applicants include a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent degree from a foreign institution AND a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students with a GPA of 2.7 to 2.99 will be considered for provisional acceptance.

    • Program additional requirements should be submitted upon the receipt of your application. When applying please allow sufficient time for your application materials (including test results) to be received by the Graduate Office and updated on your MyHusky To Do List. Files will not be forwarded for review until ALL application materials are received.
    • Programs with Rolling Admission: Application files must be completed and submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester in which a student is applying. Although the Summer Semester is broken into three sessions (two that begin on the first day of the semester and one that begins six weeks into the semester), the Summer Semester is a semester. Anyone applying for the Summer Semester must have a Complete application packet and be accepted into a program prior to the first day of the Summer Semester.
